Sacrifice

ConQuest 2004

Dreams of Deirdre: Lost Colonies variant

Earth is no more, but the aliens that destroyed it are seeking its children. The Religious colony thinks they have a powerful weapon to protect all the colonies, but, as in all things, it requires Sacrifice. Are you willing to pay the price?

"Sacrifice" finds its prelude in a message to each of the colonies from the Religious Planet. During the last meeting of all colonies, the terrible secret of the Religious planet was revealed: all members of the planet are in service to dark gods and demons, save for one island where the pure are kept to be used as sacrifices. The Religious planet, after much meditation and research, has determined that they may have a ritual that will balance the odds in favor of all the colonies. They invite the representatives of all the colonies to their home world to discuss the ritual, and permission to perform it.

The questions that sit with the other colonies are many and varied, but most come down to this: what price are they willing to pay to save humankind?

"Sacrifice" is the second Lost Colonies game from Dreams of Deirdre. Attendance at the first game is not required; no previous characters played will be in this game and any previous information gathered that is pertinent will be passed on to the players. This game is suitable for people who have never played in live action before, or for old-timers that enjoy a good piece of intrigue in outer space.

During the last game, the Colonies--the Marine planet, the Artist planet, the New Environmentalist planet, the Agricultural planet, the Religious planet, and the Scientist planet--were united after 200 years when the ships from Earth stopped coming. The Scientists created a new type of space ship, having been trapped on a planet with no hard metals, and then picked up representatives of each of the colonies to find out what happened to Earth. They found out: aliens were strip mining the once beautiful and blue planet. They were spotted as they left the solar system, but the Scientist ship was small and maneuverable and they lost the aliens on their return. Now they know the aliens know they are out there, and that it is just a matter of time before they come for the Colonies. All representatives present agreed to work together to stop the aliens.

"Sacrifice" starts 5 years after the initial re-contact among all the colonies. Some trade between the worlds has been initiated. Initial feelings of distrust and unrest are in some cases less, and in some cases worsened by reintroduction of the colonies. "Sacrifice" hopes to answer the question: what would you be willing to do to ensure humanity's survival?

Note:

Please feel free to come in costume to the LARP. Coming in costume doesn't guarantee a place in the LARP, and does not guarantee a specific type of character, so you might want to bring optional clothing, as well. Typically we will allow a few minutes to change, as long as we know what people are doing.

Please note that pictures will be encouraged, and that Dreams of Deirdre and other LARP troupes at the various conventions are frequently asked to participate in video taping or other methods of filming to promote the convention, and therefore if you do come to the game, you can count on being filmed.
