ConQuest 2004

Dreams of Deirdre: Champions variant

Everyone thinks it started as a tour. What happened next is still a mystery, as are many things within these walls. Access to this game is special.

"Asylum" is a "special entry" game for ConQuest 2004. If ConQuest can provide us a room, Dreams of Deirdre will run this game and invitations will be available to players who win role playing awards in the live action games of the following GM's/Troupes: Bill Howard, Team Volare, Joe Parzanese, Chuckling Cthulu, and the other Dreams of Deirdre game "Lost Colonies." Invitations will also be provided to con staff to give out as they see fit. It is likely a smaller variant of this game will be played if ConQuest cannot provide a room; but the game will take place. More details will be posted here closer to game time if ConQuest cannot provide a room.

Special Entry games are an experiment being run by all these groups and GM's. All the troupes have received requests from players at one time or another to play in a game with the GM's--sort of an opportunity to give as good as you get in their games, directly to and with the GM's in a fun game built specifically for this purpose. The only fair way we could determine, since we could not accommodate all players who have asked, was to create a method for invitations such that the best role players (as determined by their peers) won invitations to the game. Almost all the troupe members and GM's listed above will be playing in the game; 4 members of Dreams of Deirdre will be running, but two members will be playing. We cannot accommodate playing in a LARP with every player that asks, and this seems a fair and balanced method of playing with as many as we can. After all, without the fans, I think all the LARP troupes involved with this project agree, we would be NOWHERE.

To be eligible for the Special Entry game, sign up, get in, and play your best in any or all of the games listed for Bill Howard, Team Volare, Joe Parzanese, or Chuckling Cthulu. Please check out the tentative LARP schedule here for game times. NOTE: There are many LARPS being run at ConQuest, so there is a good chance that two of the "entry" games will be against each other. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Feel free to send questions to us at dreamsofdeirdre(at)yahoo.com. We want to try to address any and all concerns that may come up, and are likely to update this page with answers to popular questions. Acceptance or playing in any of these games does not automatically gain you entry to "Asylum", but it certainly makes you eligible if you are recognized as a good player by your peers. Individual GM's/troupes will determine the final system for handing out invitations, based on peer recognition of excellent role-playing. Con staff will determine how to disperse invitations subject to weird voodoo, general kindness, and what the space aliens tell them to; in short, they will give them away in a fair and equitable manner.

The bottom line is: "Special Entry" games are an EXPERIMENT. Please have patience if things do not work the way you expect. Please give us feedback if you enjoy the experience, or do not. We realize that since Invitations will be given as prizes there are a variety of issues that are automatically going to arise; we just ask that you be patient and aware this is something we're trying out to please the fans. Please do not complain to the con about the format for receiving entry, as that would likely resolve with us failing to run future games of this type. If you really want into one of these games, you have a much better chance if we are running more than one.

"Asylum" itself is a mystery game; players will not know where they are or what they were doing when they wake up. 70% of the players will have super powers; the other 30% of the players not be super-powered, but will have skills and abilities that will even them out, power-wise to the supers in the game. Players will probably gather they were on a tour of somewhere at the time that game started, and that the location in which they wake up is rich in mystery and secrets.

Expect intrigue, and intrigue will be expecting you, in "Asylum."

Note:

Please feel free to come in costume to the LARP. Coming in costume doesn't guarantee a place in the LARP, and does not guarantee a specific type of character, so you might want to bring optional clothing, as well. Typically we will allow a few minutes to change, as long as we know what people are doing.

Please note that pictures will be encouraged, and that Dreams of Deirdre and other LARP troupes at the various conventions are frequently asked to participate in video taping or other methods of filming to promote the convention, and therefore if you do come to the game, you can count on being filmed.
